My Page of Sadness

William Faulkner once said all aspiring writers must be able to "kill their darlings." I'm fairly confident he wasn't referring to writers' favorite advertising concepts. But I could be wrong.

Below are a few of my darlings. Each killed by a client, budget restraints or just plain 'ol bad luck.

Mack Trucks

Westminster Kennel Club Petition

Mack attends a TON of trade shows. While developing booth ideas for one such show, I discovered the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was being held around the same time. I also discovered the Westminster Kennel Club classifies the bulldog in the Non-Sporting Group.

This is an outrage!

One thing led to another and the next thing you know I was pitching an idea that involved petitioning the Westminster Kennel Club to move the bulldog to its rightful place – the WORKING GROUP!

Alas, the idea was shot down faster than you can say "Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever."

Scotts Turf Builder

A Scot for Scotts

I love The Simpsons. It's so dear to me that I once had a dog named Millhouse.

This idea was thiiiiiiis close to being produced. We were even speaking to the agent for Dan Castellaneta – the voice of Homer and Groundskeeper Willie.

But we lost the account before production began. I was, and still am, crushed.

More Mack Trucks work

A few more ideas that broke down before leaving the garage.

Moet Hennessy

Another team developed a campaign that was just plain better than this one. But I still like it and figured I'd share.
